The team leading the construction of an intermodal terminal in Sydney’s-west required strategic stakeholder and change communications programs and advice to ensure effective communication during a high-workload project and a significant period of change within the business.

The Challenge
Our client was delivering a major intermodal hub in Sydney’s west to a demanding timeline and significant investment schedule that encompassed numerous stakeholders. The first of its kind, it was critical all stakeholders were well informed but equally that the team delivering the project were informed and engaged throughout the difficult project to ensure they were communicating accurate information.
Layered over the top of this was the fact that the business and this team in particular were navigating a significant period of change. It was essential that the team were up to date with accurate information from leaders so they could focus on delivering a first of its kind intermodal hub for Sydney.
The Solution
We worked in a confidential capacity with the division’s general manager to devise key messages that he could rely on to communicate consistently with his team.
Out of that we created a strategy and timeline to ensure that his people were well informed at critical points. Our plan ensured there was easy regularity around his communication with his team, whether it was in person, online or in writing to remove barriers from keeping his team up to date.
We created templates and pro-forma articles to protect our clients time and remove as many barriers as possible to internal communications, whether it was to his team, the executive, the board or the community.
The Results
Our leadership client led with clarity and high team engagement, despite significant change happening within the business.
His focus on keeping his team informed with honest, grounded and well-informed updates meant they relied on him as a source of authoritative information during a high-pressured, deadline-driven time.
The team remained focussed and dedicated throughout a prolonged period of change until their division was eventually sold to a competitor. The director’s strong communication with his team and his approach to bringing them on the journey ensured they remained dedicated to their project until the end.
